- 2011-present: ANR Post-doctoral Researcher at the Institut Pierre Simon Laplace, Laboratoire de Météorologie Dynamique, École Polytechnique (Palaiseau, France).
- 2007-2011: Marie-Curie Research Fellow then Research Associate at the University of Cambridge (Cambridge, United Kingdom).
- 2002-2006: PhD student at the Institut de Physique du Globe de Paris (Paris, France).
Research
I am specialised in the study of the volcanic degassing (monitored in the atmosphere or in a hydrothermal system) to understand:
- The evolution of the activity of open- or closed-vent volcanoes and the underlying processes of magma and gas storage in the volcanic edifice.
Case studies: La Soufrière de Guadeloupe (Lesser Antilles), Erebus (Antarctica), Merapi (Indonesia), Kilauea (Hawaii), Shishaldin (Alaska).
- The impact of volcanic emissions (gas and particles) on the atmosphere, with a specific interest in:
- Reactive halogen and nitrogen species formed in volcanic plumes, and the potential associated depletion of the atmospheric ozone.
Case studies: Erebus (Antarctica), Popocatépetl (Mexico).
- The chemistry-transport of plumes from major eruptions and their impact in terms of air pollution and associated health troubles.
Case study: Laki (Iceland).
Methods
- Physical modeling of magmatic and degassing processes.
- Ground-based remote sensing of gases (using spectroscopic and acoustic methods).
- In-situ measurements of gases and particles (using filter packs and cascade impactor techniques).
- Combination of ground (DOAS) and satellite (IASI, AIRS, OMI) measurements of SO2 emissions to follow the volcanic activity.
- Numerical simulation of the atmospheric evolution of a volcanic plume using chemistry-transport models.
