Research Topics

My main research deals with eddy dynamics and mesoscale processes. My PhD was about the formation of eddy through baroclinic instability and their size selection above steep slopes in the coastal environment. Now I'm more focused on the role of eddies in the transport of bio-geo-chemical components. Eddies are known to play a major role in the ecological system but their observation and representation in numerical models is still challenging. I'm interested in building idealized models (experimentaly or numericaly) able to target at specific processes to study them, to perform sensitivity analyses and then to confront results with observations or global numerical models. So far my playgrounds have been the Mediterranean Sea and the Southern Ocean. Both regions are characterized by meridional transport mainly driven by mesoscale eddies and by important ecological issues at basin scale (Med Sea) or global scale (Southern Ocean). I believe lagrangian observational devices and studies are very relevant to the study of eddy transport and I'm pushing my research in this direction.
